A free and original take on Anton Chekov’s “The Seagull”, transposed to the here and now. Theatre actress Irene goes to her house by a lake near Berlin, home to her older brother Alex and her son Konstantin. Summer, sunshine, bathing in the lake – outwardly, an idyllic scene. However, the characters are cut off in their own little worlds and the scenes of day-to-day life are shrouded in fatigue, grief and lost love.
Angela Schanelec was born in 1962 in Aalen in Baden-Württemberg. After completing her A-levels, Schanelec studied acting at Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts from 1982-1984. This was followed by parts in various theatres: Schauspielhaus Cologne, Thalia-Theater Hamburg, Schaubühne Berlin and Schauspielhaus Bochum. She left the theatre to study directing at the German Film und Fernsehakademie in Berlin from 1991-1995. Since then she has worked as a freelance screenwriter and director.
