Storyline
Daniel Mantovani is a successful author in Barcelona who has been awarded prizes from all over the world – including the Nobel Prize – but has started to reject them one by one, feeling uninspired and fed up with a shallow industry. When an invitation from his hometown in Argentina arrives, wishing to make him an honorary citizen, he reluctantly agrees to attend. His return is initially greeted with joy and applause, but little by little it becomes clear that not everyone in town is that thrilled by the author’s return.
Gastón Duprat and Mariano Cohn are a critically acclaimed directing duo from Argentina. They’ve proven themselves as competent filmmakers with both documentary and feature films, and have been awarded several prizes from prestigious film festivals. Their films often feature people on the outskirts of modern society, and they have a knack for the curious and original. Among the films they have co-directed together are The Artist (2008), The Man Next Door (2009), and Querida voy a comprar cigarillos y vuelvo (2011). The Distinguished Citizen is their tenth collaborative film.
