Storyline
A tragicomic documentary about three heroes and their intractable journey in search of physical love. Everyone wants to love and be loved. Healthy or sick, strong or weak… The same is true for Adam, Tommy and Tomáš, youngsters with disabilities whose yearning for a woman’s arms remains unfulfilled. They decide to make a change and set out on an adventure in quest of their own gratification… Will we pity them or cheer them on, be disconcerted or sympathetic…? Sex and intimacy in people who are neither young nor beautiful, sprightly nor physically able, is often considered unseemly or even nonexistent. Yet it does exist. Director Dagmar Smržová opens this taboo topic with the story of three youths who decide not to surrender their yearning for love. The film highlights the obstacles they face because of their disabilities and touches on the topic of sexual assistance, a theme still largely unfamiliar to many in Czech Republic.
Dagmar Smržová was born 25.3.1966 in Prague, Czechoslovakia.Graduated from FAMU in 1992. She has directed episodes of the documentary television series Oko, GEN and 13. komnata. Her documentary War in the Memory of Women (2005) was shown at the 2005 festival in Jihlava. She has explored the life of people with handicaps in several of her past films as well, such as Saving Edwards (2010) about a family raising a child with Edwards syndrome and The Hardest of Choices (2010) about women who choose to give birth to a child knowing that it will have a serious illness.
