Storyline
During the 1920s Tomas Baťa and his step brother Jan Antonín Baťa, the global icons of the entrepreneurship from a little city of Czechoslovakia called Zlín, begun to base the brand new cities around the world in order to expand their local business. During several next decades there have been founded about fifty new towns built according to the unique social and architectural model. Today there is only a few that has survived. The movie Batalives tells the story about people that keep living in these places. Either from the third or the first world they have more in common than could be obvious.The film has been shot in five “bata cities”: Zlín in Czech Republic - the home town of the Bata Story, Bata-Borovo in Croatia, Batanagar in India, Bataypora in Brazil and Batadorp in Netherlands.
About the director
Karolína Zalabáková was born in 1983 in Zlín, Czech Republic. She has been working in the audiovisual field since 2005. She has experiences with script writing, directing, and producing. Graduated at Faculty of Arts in Masaryk University in Brno and at Departement of Animation and Audiovisual Arts of Tomas Bata Univerzity in Zlin. She worked for production company Cinebonbon as a screenwriter and director from 2003, since october 2010 to october 2017 was engaged in Czech television in Departement of documentary films. In 2016, she founded the film and television company Telepunk with Kamila Zlatuskova.
Director Petr Babinec (1985) is in charge of production at Kouzelná Animace and along with Zalabáková is currently studying for his doctorate at the Audiovisual Studio at Tomáě Baťa University in Zlín.
