Storyline

Existential crises, betrayals and misunderstandings connect two couples of friends against the background of the print media crisis and the digital revolution in the publishing business and the increasingly crucial role of social networks in the cultural field. Alain, a successful Parisian publisher struggling to adapt to the digital revolution, has major doubts about the new manuscript of Léonard, one of his long-time authors – another work of autofiction recycling his love affair with a minor celebrity. Selena, Alain’s wife, a famous stage actress, is of the opposite opinion. The film premiered in Venice this year and was also screened at TIFF.

About the director

Olivier Assayas began making short films while being an editor of Cahiers du Cinéma (1980–85). Since his first feature film, Désordre, awarded the Critics’ Week Prize in Venice (1986), he directed Irma Vep (1996), Cold Water (2004), Demonlover (2002), Clean (2004), Clouds of Sils Maria (2014), Personal Shopper (2016), all presented – and some also awarded – in Cannes.
